So here’s a quick and easy tutorial showing a way to emulate those crazy elaborate details that you find on some ornaments!!
For this i’m taking reference from my nans candlestick (nan’s can often be a good source for this sort of thing!). Also i’ll be applying the idea to a gold shield (although admittedly not my nan’s shield.)

I could have gone crazy with this detail, applying different sorts of embellishment to different areas of the model. I could have used one with a displacement modifier on a highly and evenly subdivided mesh with a displacement modifier. I could have gone way crazier with the screw modifier too, check out this tutorial from Creative Shrimp’s Gleb Alexandrov here to see what i’m talking about!
